Aquaflex is a versatile soil moisture sensor that perfectly complements Adcon’s available suite of soil moisture sensors. It overcomes the problem of measuring soil moisture content at one point only in a relatively small amount of soil. The Aquaflex samples a full 3 meters (10 feet) length of the soil over a 50 mm radius of measurement along the entire sensor.
Aquaflex is ideal for monitoring large-scale turf areas or crops where the critical soil moisture information may be at relatively shallow depths. The Aquaflex also features an integrated soil temperature sensor for applications requiring both parameters. All electronics are completely enclosed in a robust molding. Once installed Aquaflex is maintenance free and needs no more attention for up to 10 years. Technical Data
How it works
Aquaflex uses a process called Time Domain Transmission (TDT). TDT can be considered similar to TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry), however the Aquaflex TDT differs from traditional TDR in several ways. An electrical pulse is sent along a transmission line embedded within the probe. The evanescent field around the transmission line interacts with the surrounding medium. Aquaflex extracts information from the shape of the pulse which gives a good indication of soil conductivity - information that is used to compensate the moisture measurement reading to maintain accuracy in conductive soils.
